They're pretty sweet, so I like to keep these around to have once a week or so when I get sugar cravings - I just love that they satisfy my cravings without needing to cheat! I like to drink the chocolate flavors regularly instead since they aren't as sugary tasting.Coffee is the fifth ingredient in this drink, but I consider it just for flavor because I don't get any noticeable energy boost from it. Sometimes I pour it into a water bottle, add a shot of espresso and add a 1/2 cup of water and lots of ice when I'm feeling extra tired in the mornings. It has that lovely caramel/toasted sugar taste in the background - really pretty similar in flavor to a caramel coffee. The Atkins shakes are one of the few not loaded up with sugars and carbs so I find it acceptable. Having said that, I find all the Atkins drinks way too sweet. This particular flavor is the least sickeningly sweet variety. A couple of years ago Atkins changed their formula and the drinks suddenly got much more watery, thin and less creamy in texture and additional sweetness was added. I don't know if this was a cost cutting measure now that the "old man" founder of Atkins is gone or if it's a response to America developing into "sweetaholics". My friend who used to enjoy the vanilla now refuses to drink them since they changed. I still find this one flavor, Cafe Caramel, acceptable. |
